Inside Companjon - Aleks Totev
As part of our new blog series, we're sitting down (virtually) with some star employees, who share all things on what it's like to work at Companjon, what's happening behind the scenes and honest experiences. This week we sat down with one of our Solution Managers Aleksandar Totev or 'Totev' as his friends call him.
Hi Aleks, could you tell us what excited you about joining Companjon?
Well, I’ve always wanted to be part of a promising startup venture, the thought of starting something from scratch, building it and watching it grow and make an impact is what drew me to the company. What also excited me was the people working at Companjon, they’re all super motivated and diverse and all truly believe in Companjon’s success. Also, the potential growth opportunities at Companjon and the encouragement to take on responsibility and challenges really excited me and so far, this has definitely been the case.
Is working at Companjon different to what you expected?
Definitely, yes. I already had high expectations but honestly, it’s so much better. During my time in ETH Zurich University while doing my Masters, I had a few chances to take courses related to insurance but I never chose them because I thought they would be boring, but now I find insurance sexy (laughs). I find it really interesting especially in the context of technology and insurtech.
When I started working here, I was (gladly) surprised with the level of responsibility I was given, a lot of companies promise you that, but they rarely fulfil it. Already on my first day I had so much ownership of tasks and was appointed to oversee processes. Having ownership this early in my career feels empowering! I also get to have daily contacts with Executive Team Members and work with them directly on various projects which is an amazing learning experience for me.
What do you find most rewarding in your role as Solution Manager?
For me it’s quite clear. In my role I need to be constantly thinking outside the box and create solutions that really satisfy the consumers’ needs and make their lives better. The creativity and innovation part of my job is mentally stimulating and it’s very rewarding knowing that the solutions I am responsible for creating can make a positive impact to peoples’ lives when they need it most.
What is the best part about working at Companjon?
Hmm that’s a hard question because I enjoy every aspect of the company, but I would have to say the people for sure. All Companjons' are super diverse when it comes to background, age and nationalities and we all gel together very well. Regardless of the industry you come from, everyone brings something different to the table. What I really like is that we are encouraged to openly discuss and challenge one another without anyone getting offended, with the final aim to solve issues and build the company up for success.
We also have a lot of fun despite working virtually. Whether it's virtual activities, events or just simply catching up with the entire team, there is always some quality banter!
How different is working at Companjon to your previous employments?
The biggest difference from a personal development side would be the level of ownership I have so early on in my career. In previous employments, I never really had that and regardless of being quite junior, it really doesn’t feel so at Companjon. I feel like my work is meaningful and I help drive the company forward. Also, there is so much room for career growth here. I recently decided that I wanted to transition from my current position into a more strategic role within the company. I was a bit anxious to communicate that but everyone was super supportive and encouraging. They accommodated me and really saw this as something positive and a chance to further grow the company and my career.
Describe your team in 3 words
Family-like, high-performing, fun.
Debatable three words but I’ll accept it :)
If you could switch places with someone for a day who would it be?
Cristiano Ronaldo.
How did I know you would say him?!
Yes, it’s no surprise but for me he’s a role model. When it comes to hard work, he’s like a machine and I really respect him for that. I find his work ethic incredible, starting training before everyone else and leaving after everyone else, it’s no wonder he has been on top of his career for the last 20 years!
I also admire his leadership skills, his team might be down 3-0 during a match but he still motivates them, pushes forward and encourages them never to give up. He does a lot of charitable work too and does what he can to make people’s lives better.
Any final comments for our readers?
I would just say to anyone who is thinking of joining a tech company and really looking excel their career, definitely consider Companjon. The growth and exposure you get in such a short time is incredible!
